Match Report: – Bedwas & Trethomas v PABC MBA Saturday 17th August

Needing points to ensure their safety in the MBA 1st division, Pontymister Athletic travelled to Bedwas & Treethomas on Saturday to face a team, who have been  flying in recent weeks. B&T are a team full of talent and camaraderie and on their home patch, they are a match for anyone. The early exchanges were close enough, with the visitors ahead the only success of the day came on Rink 3, with Shaun Kenvynon two rinks, but down overall by 13 shots. At halfway, the home team were demonstrating their superiority on the day and extended their lead by 27 shots. Things went from bad to worse for Ponty, with only the rink skipped by  Adrew Goodwin resisting  what was an onslaught from the home team who finished with their tails up. Final score B&T 104(12 points – Ponty A  61(2 points).

Rink 1 – on the swinging rink, the Ponty boys were totally outplayed by the home team, finding it difficult to register a winning end and went down by 23 shots.

Rink 3 was the only rink to win for Ponty came from Shaun Kenvyn, Ken McKinnon,Frank Trepleton and Andrew Goodwyn, the boys fought hard and were successful in a close encounter winning by  9 shots.

Rink 4 saw Chris Simmons, Graham Smith,Richie Murphy and returning skip Roger Simms were taking a battering, down by 15 shots at one stage, before they showed some character and came back to within  5 before losing the final end.

Rink 6 was entertaining to say the least, Elwyn Simmons, Sid Phillips, Lloyd Turnbull and the Rocket started like a train racing into a 8 point lead. However the home team found their feet and silenced the big man with some big scores.

Bedwas & Treethomas fully deserved their win on the day and you can see why they are so successful on their home patch and sitting at the top of the division; perhaps the county selectors should  pay a visit. Ponty just weren’t good enough on the day  and although certain individuals played well as a team we were way below par. Its always a great experience to come to B&T and as is usual they play the game as it should be played with pride, passion and respect. It was lovely to reminisce with so many friends after the game and we thank them for their hospitality. Finally we would like to wish themr, all the very best for the rest of the season and hope to see them next year.
