On a slightly cloudy but dry day the Mister Men headed over to the eastern valley to do battle with Croesyceiliog in the MBA First Division. Croesy are a tough team to beat on their own patch and we knew we would have to play well to get a result there.
The green was heavy following the rainfall of the previous few days and Croesy certainly played the conditions much better than Pontymister.
On 5 ends there was only 2 shots in the game with Croesyceiliog taking an early lead, which they stretched to a commanding 20 shot margin on 10 ends, it was an 18 shot lead to the home team on 15 ends before Croesyceiliog ran out deserved winners by a 24 shot margin 86(12)-72(2).
On rink 2, the four of Mike Lyons, Phil Huntley, Chris Beale, and Roger Venn had a convincing win over W Saunders, P. Goring, P. Silverthorne, and Mike O’Dwyer running out 13-24 winners.
On rink 4, it was a very bad day at the office for Frank Trepleton, Graham Smith, Richie Murphy, and Dave Hill who never got to grips with their rink at all and lost 12-30 to D. Williams, H. Jenkins, N. Ford, and R. Jenkins.
On rink 5, the Mister Men’s rink of Sean Kenvyn, Nick Harris, Roger Simms, and Andrew Goodwin were involved in a close battle with A. Roberts, Mike Cleaver, N. Gooding, and M. Brooks. Pontymister led for most of the game, but dropped a “3” and “2” on the last 2 ends to go down 18-22.
On rink 6, Pontymister’s Dave Bowd, Sid Phillips, Lloyd Turnbull, and shy, quiet skipper Ronnie Morgan were involved in a tight battle against Luke Jones, S. Manley, Kevin Jones, and C. Jones, eventually going down 18-21.
A very enjoyable hour was spent with our friends from Croesyceiliog after the game in which we enjoyed a very tasty buffet and some refreshing drinks.
We wish Croesyceiliog all the very best for their remaining games and look forward to doing battle again with them next season.
